INSPIRATION

While exploring some of the RISD Nature Lab's collection of objects, I spotted a sea urchin specimen.  When I saw the sea urchin for the first time, I was mesmerized by its "otherworldly" forms.

I wanted to engage with its unique shapes and use them for a piece of jewelry that would instill the same reaction I felt when I first saw the sea urchin.

After drilling holes and sanding the pieces with a dremel, I began experimenting with how to connect the pieces with black elastic.

I found a way to wrap the elastic around the round protruding form of the sea urchin piece.  This method of weaving the pieces together effectively engages with the form of the sea urchin pieces and adds visual interest.
